About the role

Founding embedded systems engineer to own the device software layer end-to-end—bringing up the embedded platform, integrating cameras/lighting/sensors, and ensuring we can capture consistent, diagnosable, analysis-ready scans.

What you’ll do

  • Own the embedded software architecture from prototype through launch.
  • Build repeatable RGB/UV capture sequences with strong metadata, logging, and debuggability.
  • Integrate cameras, LEDs, sensors, and compute into one reliable system.
  • Build diagnostics, calibration hooks, recovery paths, and manufacturing/field tooling.
  • Partner with hardware, app, cloud, and vendors to de-risk HW/SW integration and reliability.

What we’re looking for

  • Embedded Linux experience shipping real products.
  • Strong C/C++ and Python; comfort close to hardware.
  • Experience with camera/imaging systems where consistency and calibration matter.
  • Strong debugging instincts (instrumentation, logs, failure-mode thinking).
  • High ownership and clear communication in an early-stage environment.

Bonus points

  • Experience with OTA updates, provisioning, and device fleet observability.
  • Experience with consumer hardware NPI (EVT/DVT/PVT) and manufacturing test.

What success looks like

First 30 days

  • Understand the current device stack, capture pipeline, and top reliability risks.
  • Establish baseline logging/diagnostics and a prioritized reliability backlog.

First 60 days

  • Deliver a repeatable capture sequence (RGB/UV) with clear health signals and failure detection.
  • Improve debuggability and reduce top failure modes in prototype builds.

First 90 days

  • Own the embedded plan to the next build milestone (readiness, risks, validation plan).
  • Raise the reliability bar with calibration + recovery paths that hold up in real usage.

Why this role is important

Ester’s product depends on repeatable imaging capture. If capture varies or failures aren’t diagnosable, analysis quality and launch reliability suffer. This role reduces that risk by owning the embedded/device layer end-to-end.
